KARACHI: Rough sea claims four lives

KARACHI, June 20: Four young men died after drowning in the sea off Sandspit and Cape Montz beaches in two separate incidents here on Sunday. According to Mauripur police, three young men including two brothers had come from Gulistan-i-Jauhar to Sandspit.

Police said Nisar, 18, went into sea and was swept away by strong currents. In an attempt to rescue him, his elder brother Sabtain, 22, also drowned. Their friend Kazim Abid also lost his life when tried to rescue the drowning brothers.

Some naval divers attempted to recover the bodies but failed in the face of rough sea. At Cape Montz beach, Mohammad Asif, 23, lost his life when he went into water. Several attempts were made by the divers to rescue him but due to an unusual rough sea on Sunday, the victim's body could not be recovered.

The victim was resident of FC Area, Liaquatabad. Incharge Hawkesbay Rescue Centre Zafar Khan told Dawn that sea was extremely rough on Sunday and it was foolish of the people to go into the water.

KILLED: An associate of the Arshad Papoo died in an exchange of fire between the groups of Rehman dacoit and Arshad Papoo in Lyari on Sunday. Police said that Fida Hussain of Arshad Papoo group died and his associate Talib was wounded in the cross fire near Dubai Chowk on Ahmed Shah Bokhari Road.

Mohammad Zakir, an associate of the Rehman dacoit, was also injured in the exchange of fire. Following the incident, police cordoned the area and house to house search was carried out to flush out the armed suspects. However, police failed to make any arrest.

SHOT DEAD: A forty-year-old man was shot dead by two suspects in Lyari late Saturday night. Police said that Farooq was shot dead by Naseer and Shafeeq in the limits of Chakiwara police station over some monetary dispute. The victim's father lodged an FIR nominating two suspects involved in the murder case.
