Federation Cup from May 24

KARACHI, May 21: Three-day Federation Cup to pick Pakistan bridge squad for the Commonwealth (CW) Games will be held at Aslam Bridge Hall National Stadium from May 24.

Bridge event of Commonwealth Games will be held in Manchester (England) from July 14 to 20 with 22 member countries featuring in the championship, secretary general, Pakistan Bridge Federation (PBF) Tariq Rasheed said Tuesday.

The winner of the Federation Cup will be the eligible Team to represent Pakistan in Commonwealth Games, he said.

He said around twenty teams from across the country are expected to appear in the competition which included around 16 to 18 teams from Karachi. One team each from Lahore, Rawalpindi and Hyderabad and one women’s team will also take part in the event.

The Federation Cup will be played on Swiss League System with top four making the semifinals. The last four semifinalists will then engage in a knockout competition with 32 boards and four hours of play to select the finalists.

The finalists will play each other, in a 40-board match over five hours, under World Bridge Federation rules and the winner will represent Pakistan in CW Games.—APP
