THATTA, May 21: Hundreds of growers shut the main Pinyari regulator to divert the water towards their feeders in the wee hours of Tuesday.

These growers receive irrigation water for their lands through the Raj Wah, Naon Wah, Shaikh Wah, Mehmooda Wah, Wali Shah, and Sonehry Wah, all link tributaries of the Pinyari canal.

The protesters raised slogans against the irrigation authorities and marched from Daro town to nearby villages. They had learnt that the irrigation authorities in violation of the rotation schedule had opened the water-regulating gates at Qadir Dino Shah to appease influential landlords of the coastal Taluka Jati thus depriving them of their legitimate share of water.

They stormed the regulator site, closed the distribution gates that opened towards influential people, and diverted the flow towards their tributaries.
