KARACHI, May 27: Police on Thursday recovered a shopping bag containing four kilograms of explosive material near a petrol station in Clifton. Duty officer sub-inspector Islam Gul said: "Police were informed about a bag lying near a petrol station at Schon Roundabout in Clifton.

The police reached the spot and inspected the bag." He said on inspection, it was revealed that the bag contained some explosive material and it was not attached with any detonator. The bomb disposal squad is examining the explosive to ascertain its nature.

SHOT DEAD: A police official was shot dead by his brother over some property dispute in Liaquatabad on Thursday. Police said that head constable Haji Bunyad Ali, 55, posted at Madadgar 15, was coming out of his house in Talib Colony when his brother Imtiaz shot him and escaped.

Police said that victim's second brother Mukhtar lodged the FIR with the police nominating Imtiaz for the killing. Mukhtar told the police that the killing was motivated by a dispute concerning property.

ACCIDENT: Two persons, including a five-year old boy, died in separate accidents in different parts of the city on Thursday. A young boy died and his sister was injured in a road accident in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Thursday.

Five-year-old Maqbool Ali and his sister Nelum, 7 were going to buy some sweets in Block-17 Gulistan-i-Jauhar when a speeding minibus knocked them down. Both the children were rushed to a nearby hospital where the boy was pronounced dead while his sister was provided treatment.

Later the body of the young victim was shifted to the JPMC for legal formalities. An elderly woman died in a road accident in Mauripur on Thursday. Police said that pedestrian Suraj Jamal, 60, was knocked down by a speeding minibus.

INTRUSION: Some unknown persons stormed into the clinic of a prominent psychiatrist, Dr Haroon Ahmed, late Wednesday night for the third time since last month.

"Locks of almost all drawers and cupboard were broken by the intruders who seemed to be only interested in some documents", Dr Haroon told Dawn. He said that despite repeated contacts with the Boating Basin police and DIG Tariq Jameel, no police official turned up at the crime scene to assess the situation, Dr Haroon remarked.

"So far, I have not been able to find out as to what documents are missing. We have left the spot untouched and waited whole day for police to inspect the place, but nobody came," Dr Haroon said. A small amount of cash was also found missing from the clinic, he added.

They came twice, with a watchman of Hilal-i-Ahmer, but returned each time pasting their sticker at the closed door of the clinic, he added. Earlier on April 22, the Free Mental Health Clinic located in Depot Lines behind Prince Cinema was broken up by unknown intruders.

CHARAS HAUL: The Gulshan town police on Thursday recovered 555 kgs of charas from the secret chambers of a passenger coach near Baitul Mukaram Mosque. Town police officer Gulshan town Abdul Khaliq Shaikh told Dawn that the police intercepted a coach (P-1791), coming from Mardan.

After carrying out the search, the police found charas hidden in the secret compartments in the roof. It was packed in 555 plastic packets each weighing one kg, police said. Police arrested coach driver Arab Gul and conductor Gul Raza and booked them in narcotics act in Aziz Bhatti police station.
