KARACHI, May 20: The city government, with involvement of private parties, will construct pedestrian bridges on 30 major thoroughfares in the city on built, operate and transfer basis.

In the first phase of this plan, a pedestrian bridge will be built on the University Road in front of the Urdu Science College. An agreement was signed between the CDGK and a private firm, Armeda, in this connection on Thursday.

EDO, Transport and Communication, Dr Tahir Soomro, and Irfan Hashmi of Armeda, signed the agreement in this regard. The construction work on the first bridge was underway and would be completed within one month, while the rest of the bridges would be built with in a two years period, it was learnt.

The bridges would be built at Lal Kothi Bus Stop, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Capri Cinema, MA Jinnah Road, Quaid Mausoleum Gate, Shahrah-e-Qauideen, Wireless Gate, National Highway, Old Sabzi Mandi, University Road, Mohjar Camp-III, Hub River Road, Ghas Bandar at Bandar Road, Chota Gate, National Highway, Golden Gate, Sher Shah Soori Road, Enquiry Office, NS Ali Khan Road, Naseerabad, Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Liaquat No 4, Shahrah-i-Ibn-i-Sina Road, Old Haji Camp, MT Khan Road, Edhi Center, University Road, Drig Road Railway Station, Sharea Faisal, Momtaz Manzil, University Road, Urdu Science College, University Road, 2-K Bus Stop, Sher Shah Sori Road, Nazimabad No 2, Hakim Ibn-e-Sina Road, Lyari Railway Station, Mauripur Road, Bahzad Lakhnavi Road, Shadman Town, Pir Bokhari, Sharea Faisal, Ala Din Park Gate, Rashid Minhas Road, Nazimabad No 6, Nawab Siddique Ali Khan Road, Al-Asif Square, Super Highway, Near Jaamat Khan Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Wazir Mansion Railway Station, Mauripur Road and EM Oil Mill, SITE.

According to the CDGK, construction of these bridges will considerably reduce the number of accidents in the city. -PPI
