KARACHI, May 20: The KESC has been continuing with its unannounced load shedding in various localities of the metropolis which has made the citizens' life miserable, particularly amid the simmering weather conditions.
The most affected area on Thursday appeared to be North Nazimabad where people experienced long span of power failure coupled with numerous other problems arising out of it.
Capt Mohiuddin, a resident of block-I, N. Nazimabad, said that power supply to his block, as well as blocks H, L, M and N, discontinued at 3pm due to suspension from a grid which supplied electricity to seven feeders. The supply was restored at 6pm, he added.
"I contacted KESC officials and found out that there was no coordination among them. They did not even know that power supply from a grid had discontinued," he remarked.
A consumer in block L said that power supply remained suspended in a vast area for more than four hours on the night between Wednesday and Thursday creating serious problems to the students who were preparing for their examination.
An irate consumer in block-20, Federal B Area, said that electricity went off in the night disturbing those sleeping and none of the affected families could have a sound sleep for the rest of the night due to hot and humid weather.
"The elders just put a curse on the KESC for suspending power supply but children started crying. Power supply to the neighbouring blocks 17, 18 and 19 was also cut off," he said.
An angry citizen in KDA Overseas Bungalows, in block 16-A of Gulistan-i-Jauhar, said that the disruption in power supply with intervals had become a routine. She said that the supply had been halted at noon and restored after one-and-a-half hour. Later, at about 5.30pm, power supply was suspended for an hour and then at 9pm again for another hour.
Another woman consumer in block 7 of Federal B Area complained about frequent disruption in power supply. She said that unannounced load shedding had become order of the day.
She also complained of hour-long regular power cut in the afternoon, evening and night regularly. Similar complaints were received from blocks 14 and 15 of F. B. Area.
A resident of Ambareen Apartment, in block of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, said that scores of families in each apartment block in the locality experienced half-hour/one-hour load shedding after every few hours on Wednesday night and the following day.
This kind of disruption, he said, not only disturbed thousands of men, women and children whole the night, but caused immense problems to the elderly and sick people at home and hospitals.
For students preparing for examinations, whose future has been put at stake, the disruption in power supply appeared absolutely unbearable, he added. Speaking from block-16, Federal B Area, a consumer said that the KESC had constantly been denying that it had resorted to load shedding.
However, he added, the regular switching off and switching on exactly on particular time exposed the KESC claim. A consumer in block 4-A, Journalist Society in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, said that the power went off in the afternoon for three hours and again in the evening for another hour.
