KARACHI, May 18: Four men, including son of a UC councillor, were killed by unknown persons in different areas of the city on Tuesday.

Police said that two bullet-riddled bodies were found near Jauhar Park in Block-13 of Gulshan-i-Iqbal. An abandoned vehicle (PE-0587) belonging to the victim was also found nearby, they added.

Later, the victims were identified as Ishaq and Tariq Javed, 30, son of Javed Iqbal, a councillor in UC-8 of Liaquatabad Town. According to the police, Tariq Javed used to operate contract carriage vehicles.

On Tuesday morning, Tariq and Ishaq left their house in Punjabi Christian Colony, F.C. Area, to pick a picnic party. When they reached near Hasan Square unknown persons kidnapped them along with the vehicle. Shortly after the incident, their bodies were found in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, police said.

It is pertinent to mention here that the UC-8 councillor's office was ransacked a few days back. Area people said that the councillor as well as his son were active in development works.

On Tuesday afternoon, some enraged members of Christian community staged a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club. They blocked the road with the two dead bodies and raised slogans against the government for not protecting minorities.

The UC councillor Javed Iqbal, who was also among the protesters, told newsmen that his son along with the helper had left the house in Punjabi Christian Colony around 6:30am. They were supposed to pick up a picnic party who had booked the vehicle for Gadani.

In Model Colony, an unidentified man was killed on Tuesday morning. Area police said that the body of an unknown man was found from a gunny bag placed in an alleyway near Umer Park. They said the body was trussed up and had torture marks. The victim was apparently killed by strangulation, police said.

Police shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for postmortem examination. Later, the body was sent to the Edhi morgue for identification.

In Rizvia Society, a young man was shot dead when he posed resistance to armed robbers on Tuesday. Police said that three armed bandits barged into a house in Jalalabad. They held the inmates hostage at gunpoint and collected Rs40,000 and some gold ornaments.

Mohammad Afzal, 19, tried to resist the fleeing robbers. They shot at him and fled. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In Sohrab Goth, a young man was shot dead and his brother was wounded when some armed men shot at them in their house on Tuesday. Police said that Noor Mohammad, 25, died and his brother Abdul Haji, was injured in the firing.

According to the police, the incident occurred in the Mohammadi Goth. Police suspected some personal enmity as a possible motive behind the killing.
