DADU, May 20: The provincial secretary, Irrigation, Mir M. Parhiar said that if any grower cultivated paddy in the command areas of the waterways originating from the Dadu canal and Johi branch, his waterways would be closed for twelve months under the Irrigation Act.
He said this while addressing growers and officials of the irrigation department at the Circuit House on Monday.
He advised the growers to cultivate cotton instead of paddy crop.
He said that the irrigation department would provide the water for cultivation of cotton crop and drinking in the district.
He warned that if any irrigation official helped someone influential for cultivating paddy crop in the command area of Dadu canal and Johi branch he would be dismissed from service.
He said that the Johi branch and Dadu canal were only meant for cultivating cotton crop.
He claimed that during the current season the Dadu canal had been supplied more water than the last one.
The provincial secretary, Irrigation, on the complaints of growers suspended the SDO, Pat Sharif sub-division, Nadeem Ahmed Jokhio.
PASSENGER LOOTED: Four accused looted Rs14,000 in cash and two gold rings from a passenger, Saeed Khan Lashari, and hijacked a Hyderabad-bound pickup (KYC-0431) near Jamshoro Colony on Monday.
The Jamshoro police have registered an FIR against the driver of the vehicle, Abdul Khaliq, and four unidentified accused.

GUTTED: At least 12 houses were gutted when a fire broke out in Dato Khan Chandio village in taluka Khairpur Nathan Shah on Sunday.
As much as 500 maunds of wheat, 100 maunds of paddy, two goats and other valuables were reduced to ashes.
DEMO: A large number of inhabitants of union council Phulji, taluka Johi, took out a rally against the chairman of the district Zakat Committee, Dadu.
After the marching on roads of Dadu, they gathered outside the press club where they staged a demonstration for one hour.
Demonstrators were led by the councillors of the union council Phulji, Alam Khan Qambrani, Zamin Ali Jamali, Sikandar Ali Laghari and Qurban Ali Jamali.
Speaking to the demonstrators, Qambrani said that the chairman had given the Zakat cheques to 71 people who were not deserving.
He accused the chairman of committing misappropriation and corruption in the disbursement of the Zakat funds.
