WASHINGTON, May 19: A US special forces soldier was killed on Sunday when his patrol was attacked in eastern Afghanistan, US military officials said.

The US Central Command, in a statement, said the soldier was killed in a firefight that began about 1230 GMT (6.30pm PST).

Authorities withheld the soldier’s identity and did not say whether he was from the army, navy, air force or marine corps.—AFP
