KARACHI, April 20: A couple marrying of their free will and being chased by girl's brothers, has urged the government to provide them safety and take action against the people threatening them.

The couple, Dr Amnat Solangi and Dr Ghulam Mustafa Solangi, were speaking at a press conference organized by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan at the Press Club on Tuesday. Uzma Noorani and Javed Burki of the HRCP also spoke on the occasion.

The couple said that they had married on Nov 30, 2002, in Karachi, with permission, and in presence, of the girl's mother.They said that when, after some time, they declared their marriage, the girl's brother, who is an influential person, did not like it and told them to separate.

They said that after receiving threats, they left their home in Moro and came to Karachi, adding that since then they had been hiding and could not live a normal life. They claimed that an FIR of kidnapping, Zina, etc had also been registered against them under the Hudood Ordinance, alleging that the girl's brother was demanding Rs12 million in 'compensation' if they wanted to continue their marriage.
