Accident leaves 6 armymen dead

QUETTA, March 14: At least six army personnel were killed and 21 were injured when their truck meet a fatal accident on the Quetta-Karachi highway, near Surab, 250 km from here, on Sunday.

An army truck carrying personnel from Quetta and bound for Khuzdar, overturned and fell into a road-side ditch near Qila Ababky in Surab area, and three of them were killed on the spot.

The tehsildar of Khuzdar, while confirming the accident, said that three other injured soldiers succumbed to their injuries in the Combined Military Hospital at Khuzdar, where 21 other injured persons are undergoing treatment.

Later five of the most seriously injured were airlifted to the CMH at Quetta by a helicopter. The cause of the fatal incident was said to have been a burst tyre. Three of the dead army personnel were identified as Mohammad Akbar, Niaz Ahmed and Ahmed Sher. The names of the remaining victims could not ascertained.
