MIRPURKHAS, Feb 20: Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz organized a token hunger strike in different parts of Sindh on Friday to express solidarity with 11 party workers who are observing fast unto death in Karachi in protest against the greater Thal canal and the Kalabagh dam.
District JSQM president Akram Qambrani, joint secretary Manzoor Memon, District Bar Association chief Ali Hassan Chandio, Jeay Sindh Students' Federation leader Zeeshan Laghari, Asghar Meerani and others observed the token hunger strike.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Memon said that Sindh had been deprived of its rights and its resources were being usurped. As a result, he said, poverty graph was rising in the province and poor people were compelled to commit suicide.
He said that an awareness about their rights had arisen among the Sindh people. Mr Laghari said that their struggle would continue till the acceptance of their demands and asked the government to remove feeling of deprivation among the Sindh people.
Mr Chandio asked the JSQM to continue the protest movement till the acceptance of the demands and added that the people should participate in the campaign in large numbers to pressure the government to abandon the disputed water projects.
SUKKUR: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz observed a token hunger strike outside the press club on Friday to protest against the construction of Kalabagh dam and Thal canal.
Speaking on the occasion, JSQM vice-chairman Dr Niaz Kalani said the people of Sindh would never allow the construction of Kalabagh dam and Thal canal. He said that if the government did not shelve these projects, they would not hesitate to sacrifice their lives.
Terming Kalabagh dam and Thal canal anti-Sindh projects, he appealed to the people to join hands in the movement against these projects.
LARKANA: Around 100 activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz observed a one-day hunger strike here.
Those who observed the one-day hunger strike included Athar Soomro, Sarkash Sindhi and G.M. Abro. On the occasion, the JSQM activists raised slogans against the president, prime minister and Sindh governor.
