KABUL, Feb 16: Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Monday condemned the killing of four aid workers in western Afghanistan over the weekend, a presidential spokesman said.

The four Afghans, who worked for a non-government demining agency, were shot dead on Saturday by suspected Taliban militants after their vehicles were ambushed in western Farah province.

"The president strongly condemns the terrorist attack on four deminers in Farah province," spokesman Jawed Ludin told reporters. "This is terrorists and murderers who have committed such a cruel action," he said, adding that Afghanistan was not too far from eradicating such elements.

The governor of Farah province said on Sunday three people were killed at the scene and a fourth died later. -AFP
