RAWALPINDI, May 17: Patchwork on roads and repair of street- lights along the routes of Eid-i-Milad-un-Nabi processions would be completed by 10 Rabiul Awal, said Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) Col (Rtd) Najamul Hassan Malik.
He was presiding over a meeting of the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) here on Friday in connection with preparations for Eid Milad-un-Nabi, which is being observed on May 25.
The TMO directed the departments concerned to issue notices to the owners of the under-construction buildings along the routes of the processions to remove debris and other construction material lying in front of the building before 10 Rabiul Awal.
The TMA, he said, would sprinkle water along the routes of the procession, and the usual washing of the roads would not be possible because of water shortage in the city.
Deliberating on the programmes for observing Eid Milad, he said the routes of the processions, particularly the main areas like Murree Road, Fawara Chowk, Iqbal Road and Jamia Masjid Road, would be decorated with buntings and decorative lights.
Stages and festive gates would be set up at these places, he added.
The business community, he said, would be encouraged to decorate their buildings and markets. An illumination competition would be held for which a committee would be constituted to decide the best decoration.
In view of the hot weather, the TMO said the administration would set up water dispensation points (Sabeels) along the routes to facilitate the participants of the procession.
Meanwhile, people have also started arranging programmes for observing the occasion.
Committees have been formed at the ward and Mohalla level in the city to chalk out programmes.
A number of processions would be taken out from different places that would parade through the streets and roads of the city, reciting Naats.
The main procession in Rawalpindi would be taken out from Jamia Masjid early in the morning. The procession, after passing through Jamia Masjid Road, Imambargah Chowk, Captain Iftikhar Shaheed Road, Murree Road, Shaheed Chowk, Iqbal Road, Trunk Bazaar, Milad Chowk, Raja Bazaar and Bansanwala Bazaar, would culminate at Jamia Masjid late in the night.
Smaller processions would be taken out from different parts of the city that would then pour into the main procession. Residents of the areas, from where the processions pass, shower flower petals and serve them with sweets and drinks.
Quran Khawani and special prayers would be held at mosques and different public places.
Several religious and literary organizations have arranged Naat Khawani Mahafil, which would be participated by local poets and religious scholars, besides common people.
