KARACHI, Jan 29: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Thursday, stressing postgraduate training in the health sector, directed that for future appointments of doctors, postgraduate candidates be preferred.

Presiding over a meeting held at the Governor's House in connection with the promotion of postgraduate medical education, the governor gave approval for various steps.

He directed that vacant posts of 260 house-job officers be immediately allocated for postgraduate private students. In the meeting, stress was also laid on early establishment of Hyderabad Centre of the College of Physicians and Surgeons and the governor directed that all bottlenecks in the way be removed.

The meeting was informed that by December, 2005, the CPSP Fellow, specialized doctors could be appointed in all the district hospitals. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Brig Akhtar Zamin, Health Secretary Ashiq Hussain Memon, Finance Secretary Malik Israr, vice-chancellor, Dow Medical University, Dr Masood Hameed and others.

Meanwhile, speaking at a meeting convened on IT-related matters, Dr Ibad stressed mobilizing of IT sector in consonance with the modern day requirements. He issued directive with regard to establishment of IT varsity and called for ensuring better educational services at private IT institutes. He asked the authorities concerned to submit proposals regarding the future of IT Board and merger of the Bureau of Statistics in it.-APP
