VEHARI, Aug 29: Following the death of five people due to cholera in Chak 511-EB, Burewala, a district health team collected samples of drinking water on Friday and sent the same to Lahore for analysis.
Vehari DHO Dr Pervaiz Haider told Dawn that over 1,000 villagers had been vaccinated during the last two days. He said the main cause of the disease was poor cleanliness and unhygienic atmosphere. He said two children and a woman were under treatment at the THQ Hospital, Burewala.
A group of people alleged neither the district government had allocated development funds for their village nor taken steps to provide them clean drinking water. They urged the higher authorities to provide them with all basic health facilities.
However, a district administration team, including the district officer (revenue), the deputy district officer (revenue) and the tehsildar visited the affected village and assured the people that they would be provided with all facilities specially clean drinking water.
