GUJRANWALA, Aug 29: A Wahando police station SHO has become a rolling stone between the PML-Q’s rival heavyweights in connection with the election of the Kamoki tehsil Nazim, it is learnt here on Friday.

Sources told this correspondent that Wahando PS SHO Shahbaz Ahmad Cheema had registered a case against prime minister’s political adviser Rana Nazir Ahmad Khan and members of his family charged with stealing electricity a few days ago.

Mr Khan expressed resentment over the issue and got the SHO transferred to Ladheywala Warriach, replacing him with Rashid Sindhu.

Meanwhile, the political rivals of the provincial transport minister accused the newly-inducted Wahando SHO of running an election campaign against their nominee for the Kamoki Nazim’s slot. He urged the Nazims and councillors to cast their vote in favour of the PML-Q nominee.

On receiving complaint, DPO Saud Aziz again transferred Mr Cheema back to his previous place of posting.

GANG BUSTED: Kamoki police claimed on Friday to have busted a seven-member gang of highwaymen, active in various districts of the Punjab, following an encounter.

The police also claimed to have seized booty and illicit arms from their possession.

District Police Officer Saud Aziz told newsmen that the gang members had gathered at Mari Thakreen canal to plan a strike. Led by an information, a policy team reached there and, on the robbers resistance to surrender, opened fire. The shootout lasted for half an hour after which the gangsters surrendered.

Those arrested were Muhammad Ramzan, Bakhtiar Ahmad, Waqar Ahmad, Muhammad Khalil, Amanat Ali, Abid Husain and Muhammad Kamal.
