DERA GHAZI KHAN, Aug 29: The convener of the special sub-committee of the Dera tehsil council on Friday recommended that the rent embezzlement case of the tehsil municipal administration should be sent to the National Accountability Bureau.
At the regular session of the tehsil council, presided over by Naib Nazim Hafiz Khalid Rauf, a majority of members refused to confirm the proceedings of the previous meeting and demanded that minutes of the meeting should be provided to them, but the authorities concerned did not provide the same. In protest, they boycotted the meeting, but later on they were brought back to the house. At least 11 resolutions were discussed during the session.
Councillor Zulqarnain Nukani presented fake receipts of water supply bills which were being distributed among consumers on behalf of the tehsil administration and demanded a probe into the matter. The Naib Nazim constituted an inquiry committee comprising three council members, Mushtaq Khan Buzdar, Shaikh Qasim and Wajid Sherwani.
On another resolution presented by Naseem Begum, the house decided that the contract for the canteen of the girls high school should be awarded to a woman contractor.
Saifullah Buzdar presented an inquiry report regarding embezzlement of rent of commercial property of the tehsil administration. He said the assistant revenue officer had not provided the proper record of the matter. He suggested that the case should be sent to the NAB for fixation of criminal responsibility.
The convener refused to make the suggestion given by the committee a part of the record of the proceedings of the council. However, the council members protested over it.
The Naib Nazim appointed the tehsil officer (planning) as an inquiry officer to check the findings of the sub-committee.
