PESHAWAR, Jan 22: The FIA crime cell has arrested five persons on the charge of selling unregistered and spurious drugs, official sources said here on Thursday.

An FIA team, on information about the open sale of Iranian, Indian and spurious drugs in the market, raided a medical store on Wednesday at Charsadda Road near Bacha Khan square and arrested Mohammad Sadiq.

Later, the team led by Inspector Shahid Ilyas raided Tajabad area and sealed Mohmand, Rehman and Alfati medical stores and seized a good quantity of Iranian, Indian and spurious drugs.

Three Afghan refugees Samiullah, Ghulam Rehman and Maywand were arrested. The accused informed the team about the source of illegal drugs, which led to a raid on the International Marketing Survey office, the main supplier, and the arrest of Shams-ur-Rehman, the official sources said.

During interrogation, all the accused confessed to selling the unregistered, spurious and government hospitals drugs in the open market. The sources said that on Thursday the FIA team went to District and Sessions Judge Hayat Ali Shah, in the absence of drug court Judge Safdar Khan, to get the remand of the accused.

But the judge denied, saying that the drug court judge had not delegated his powers to anyone to act in his absence. All the accused were sent to jail, the sources maintained.
