KARACHI: Two traders among five shot dead

KARACHI, Jan 12: Four people and an alleged robber were killed in different parts of the city. A dealer in the electronics market was shot dead and his son wounded by armed men in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Monday.

Police said Haji Naseeruddin and his son Fasihuddin left their shop in Saddar for their home in Block 13-B, Gulshan-i-Iqbal. As they reached their house, assailants opened fire on them and fled, leaving the man and his son in a pool of blood around 2am.

The family and neighbours, who came out after hearing gunshots, took them to a private hospital where Naseeruddin died. Police believed the assailants were chasing the deceased's car.

A spares dealer was shot dead in Pak Colony near his shop on Monday. Police said two motorcyclists intercepted Akbar Khan, 28, near his shop adjacent to Chaman Cinema in Pak Colony, and shot him dead. Later, the assailants sped away.

A man was shot dead on Shaheed-i-Millat Expressway late Sunday night. Police said they were informed about a man, writhing in agony after being shot. The Baloch Colony police took him to the JPMC where he died. An identity card, found in his clothes, disclosed his name as Allah Datta.

A man was shot dead and his friend wounded when their friends opened fire on them in Kharadar on Sunday night. Police said four friends were sitting near Kaghzi Bazaar in Kharadar. They had an altercation on a petty matter and two of them pulled out their pistols and shot at their two friends.

As a result, Javed and Bashir were wounded. Javed later died at the Civil hospital. Police registered a case against Irfan and Hanif, who fled the scene. An alleged robber was shot dead in an exchange of fire with security guards while his four accomplices managed to escape with cash.

Police said the cashier of a thread-making factory Athar Shaikh, along with two security guards, Liaquat and Bilal, went to draw cash of Rs one million. As they were returning, five robbers intercepted them and tried to snatch the cash. Security guards put up resistance which ensued an exchange of fire. As a result, an alleged robber was killed and the guards wounded. The body of the alleged robber could not be identified immediately, the police said.

ACCIDENT: A 12-year-boy died after being hit by an unknown vehicle on Mauripur Road on Monday. Police said Amjad was crossing the road when he was hit. The body was sent to Civil Hospital for autopsy and later handed over to his family.

ARREST: Two policemen of Mochko PS were arrested on Monday for receiving bhatta from people constructing their houses in the area. A senior police official said policemen Shahid and Nizakat were arrested on the finings of an inquiry constituted by the DIG (Operations). They were booked under section 156-C of the Police Order 2000.

Meanwhile, police arrested a man Syed Rizwan Ahmed following recovery of three snatched official SMGs, a 7mm rifle, and a TT pistol from his possession in Jamshed Quarters.
