LAHORE, Jan 9: Lawyers at city's subordinate courts go to polls on Saturday (today) to elect their representatives on the Lahore Bar Association -- the largest bar in Asia -- in what seems a tough contest.
The total number of voters is 5,385 who will exercise their right between 9am and 5pm at a polling station set up on the district courts premises. Outgoing LBA leaders, headed by president Mansoorur Rehman Afridi, and other officials remained busy with polling arrangements till late night on Friday.
Mirza Muhammad Hanif Beg and Chaudhry Mohammad Naeem are pitched in a direct fight for the office of president. Four candidates -- Irshad Beg, Arshad Jahangir Jhoja, Pirzada Mamoonur Rashid and Tariq Mahmmof Sandhu -- are involved in a contest for two posts of vice-president and Sardar Mahmoodur Rashid Dogar and Mirza Khalid Javed Beg are in the run for the same office from Model Town courts.
M Mqsood Buttar, G A Tariq, Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ahmad Ran, Rana Qamar and Sajid Latif Hanjra are in the field for two offices of the secretary and a triangular contest for the joint secretary's office is among Miss Azra Riaz Khan, Nansar Mahmood Jaspal and Nadeem Ansari.
The contest for the office of finance secretary is between Aziz A Bhatti and Miss Shabana Ahmad while it is among Chaudhry Murad Ali, Malik Irshad Ahmad Awan and Malik Ramzan Chaudhry for librarian.
