KARACHI, Jan 2: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Friday inaugurated reconstructed Gurumandir Chowrangi, costing Rs48 million, which has been opened for traffic.

Sewerage and storm water drainage system has been built, while special arrangements have been made for underground cables of different utility services to avoid digging of the newly carpeted, 1,320,000 sqft road.

Footpaths, stretching over 7,800 sqft, have been constructed alongside the chowrangi, from where about 3,50,000 vehicles pass daily. The vehicles sometimes had to stay for 15 to 20 minutes at the chowrangi before its reconstruction, often resulting in traffic jams.

Now, after its uplift, each vehicle will cover the distance hardly in two minutes, due to installation of traffic signals on the chowrangi, which would save time as well as fuel, being consumed due to traffic congestions.

City Nazim, while inaugurating the chowrangi, said that traffic problems, which were caused due to congestion at roundabouts, had been resolved to a certain extent, whereas construction work on Sohrab Goth, Hasan Square and Quaidabad flyovers was about to start.

"Traffic problems would be further minimised with the completion of FTC and Shahrah-e-Quaideen flyovers, which are expected to be completed soon," he remarked.

He said that Manghopir Road would be inaugurated on Saturday, while 8000 Road in Landhi on Jan 4, and 'dualization' of Karsaz Road would also begin very soon. - PPI
