RAWALPINDI, Dec 20: The Chairman of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that sensors will be installed at all the four corners of Ghakar Plaza to detect those trapped under the rubbles alive.

Talking to newsmen in front of burning plaza on Saturday night, Gen Farooq said installation of censors would begin any time till morning to be followed by the removal of the debris from the site in consultation with rescue teams.

The aggressive general blamed the media for sensationalising the incident and advised them to “report accurately”. Contrary to Gen Farooq’s statement, army was mobilised after 18 hours of the eruption of the fire.

He said the District Government approached in the morning, after which Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was briefed who directed to take all out measures to protect human lives.

The Prime Minister also ordered release of six aviation helicopters to control the fire.

Ironically, only one helicopter hovered around noon above the burning plaza and poured water only on the roof of the plaza which was a futile exercise.

The amount of water poured on the plaza was ineffective and costlier than the fuel it consumed.
