BAHAWALNAGAR, May 12: A local DSP has refused to take action against his counterpart on the application recommended by the Punjab governor, it is learnt.

Information gleaned by this correspondent on Sunday revealed widow Shabnam Shaukat filed an application with the police against her in-laws, demanding recovery of right of property.

DSP Mahmoodul Hassan refused to take action on the plea that the application included the name of DSP Mianwali who was the complainant’s brother-in-law.

The widow approached Punjab Governor Lt-Gen Khalid Maqbool (retired) who ordered the police to take action without delay.

It is learnt the local DSP has threatened two reporters of local dailies who, he claimed, played up the news.

POLICE SYSTEM: The CIA has been split into three departments with the implementation of new police system.

Dawn learnt on Sunday the three departments were investigation, police station staff and patrolling parties.

At least five cars and 30 two-wheelers will be given to the investigation department in the district. The investigators will wear blue caps.

A constable will be appointed with the investigating officer.

ARRESTED: The district police on Sunday claimed to have arrested five members of a gang with booty and illicit weapons.

Headed by ASP Mahboob Aslam, the police raided hideout and arrested Abdul Jabbar, Iftikhar Ahmad alias Khara, Asghar Ali, Zafar alias Zafri, Akhtar Zaman and Javed. The police claimed they had recovered Rs142,000 in cash, gold ornaments and illicit weapons from the gang.

The gang was reportedly involved in several incidents of motorbike snatching and robbery at a patwari’s house.

Two members of the gang were still at large, police added.
