KARACHI, May 11: The senior-most official of the Fishermen Cooperative Society, Haji Ghazanffar Ali Boota, who served fisheries sector for 43 years, retired on Saturday.
He was replaced by Haji Wali Mohammad who took over the charge as FCS Manager Administration on Saturday evening.
Mr Boota joined the FCS on Oct 6, 1957, as LDC, the day Karachi Fish Harbour started functioning. He served the FCS in his capacity as LDC, market supervisor and continued to hold the office of manager administration.
He was equally popular among his colleagues and fishermen communities for his valuable services in the development of harbour and welfare of fishermen community, particularly his role for the release of detained Pakistani fishermen in India.
A special meeting was called by the FCS chairman, Syed Tayyab Naqvi, to eulogise the services of Mr Boota.
Among others the meeting was attended by FCS vice-chairman Haji Shafi Mohammad Jamote, elected directors and naval officials currently deputed at Karachi Fish Harbour.
They lauded the services of Mr Boota for the fishermen community.
