ISLAMABAD, Nov 21: The weekly inflation, measured through the sensitive price index (SPI), surged by 29.02 per cent during the week ended on Nov 20 over the corresponding week of last year, Statistics Division said on Friday.

The SPI witnessed an increase of 29.33 per cent and 29.74 per cent for households in income brackets of up to Rs3,000 and Rs3,001 to Rs5,000, respectively.

For households in the income brackets of Rs5,001 to 12,000, the increase was in the range of 30.06 per cent and for households with income over Rs12,000 the inflation surged by 28.56 per cent over the same week last year.

The prices of tomatoes rose by 13.11 per cent to Rs35.71 per kg, onions by 12 per cent to Rs25.02 per kg, chicken by 6.38 per cent to Rs98.22 per kg and electricity charges by 4.89 per cent to Rs3.22 per unit during the week under review.

Telephone local call price went up by 4.76 per cent to Rs2.42, egg by 2.51 per cent to Rs65.83 per dozen, tea packet 1.68 per cent to Rs106.47 per 250gm and electric bulb by 1.24 per cent to Rs13.91.

Bread plain mid-size price increased by 1.22 per cent to Rs23.97, potatoes by 1.14 per cent to Rs27.53 per kg, firewood by 0.41 per cent to Rs265.06 per 40 kg and mash pulse washed by 0.31 per cent to Rs74.82 per kg.

The price of bananas was up by 0.25 per cent to Rs31.86 per dozen, shirting 0.19 per cent to Rs79.06 per metre, mutton by 0.12 per cent to Rs256.51 per kg, beef by 0.05 per cent to Rs142.20 per kg and masoor pulse washed by 0.02 per cent to Rs129.28 per kg.
