MULTAN, May 10: The Pakistan Teachers United Front has announced boycott of educational activities in Punjab from Friday till the acceptance of their demands.

The protest programme was chalked out at a conference held here on Friday to protest against the callous attitude of the present rulers towards teachers’ problems.

Delegates from various parts of the country attended the conference which was presided over by PTUF president Raja Zafeer Ahmad. Raja Ali Shan of the Azad Kashmir teachers association and Abdul Ghaffar of the Balochistan organization were the chief guests.

The moot passed the following resolutions: — withdraw cases against teachers of Balochistan, — raise salaries of low-grade staff up to 53 per cent at par with the increase given to high-grade officials, — restore old commutation table, — give teachers time scale, — stop victimization of columnist Dr Ajmal Niazi and reinstate him to the government service, and — the government should pay heed to the woes of the teachers community in Azad Kashmir.

Speakers said the front was just struggling to get a respectable place for teachers in society. They threatened that they would come on roads if the government did not resolve their problems before May 21.
