KARACHI, May 10: One of the four power units of the Hub Power Company’s 1200MW power plant at Hub, near Lasbela in Balochistan, experienced a major generator transformer fault on May 8.

The company is evaluating the alternatives for bringing back the said 300MW unit into order in the minimum time.

As a result of the incident the remaining three units of 300MW each will be available for dispatch by WAPDA, till unit 4’s generator transformer is replaced within the next four weeks, a Hubco press release said in Karachi on Friday.

There were no external events or personnel injuries associated with this technical failure.

At present the generator transformer of unit 4 remains under observation in line with procedures for the safe management of large equipment in distress.

A prior decision by Hubco will enable the company to reduce the downtime to about four weeks instead of many months. —PPI
