Bulletproof jackets to policemen

LAHORE, Oct 12: Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed has directed equipping all officials deployed at check posts of entry and exit points of the city with bulletproof jackets, metal detectors and sand bags on priority basis.

He also ordered maintaining complete record of stolen and snatched vehicles/motorcycles at these check posts.

The SSP passed these directives during his visits to Saggian Bridge and Ravi Bridge check posts on Sunday. He questioned the officials deputed there how they checked motorists entering or leaving the city, and issued them necessary directives.

He directed them not to harass and disturb motorists unnecessarily where the checking was required and let them go as soon as possible. The SSP said the DSP security would inspect all check posts daily and produce report to SP security and the SSP.

He said additional barriers would be provided at check posts for their installation at least 50 yards away from the check posts.

Later, the SSP visited Garden Town police station and expressed resentment over non-completion of record and poor patrolling system. The SSP warned SHO Muhammad Afzal to improve his performance in a week, otherwise be ready for strict action. boys drown: Two boys drowned in a pond in Tera village near Harbanspura bridge on Sunday. The victims were identified as Shoib Mushtaq (8), a student of class one, and Aqib Tariq (12) of class five.

Rescue 1122 said the boys drowned while bathing in the pond. Locals called in Rescue 1122 which reached the spot and recovered the bodies. — Staff Reporter
