KARACHI, Sept 20: The bullet-riddled body of a 22-year-old man, who was kidnapped three days ago in Korangi allegedly by the father of the girl he wanted to marry, was found in Ibrahim Haidri on Saturday.

Fahim Ahmed, a factory worker living in Landhi No 6, was kidnapped on Sept 17 allegedly by Aashiq Chandio, a dismissed constable, when the latter along with one of his friends went to the former’s house in Nasir Colony.

The Korangi police on Sept 18 registered a case (FIR 866) against Chandio under Section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code for kidnapping the young man on the complaint of the victim’s elder brother, Salim Ahmed.

The body was found in the bushes at a desolate place. It was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where sources said the victim was killed at least three days ago as the body was partially decomposed.

The medico-legal department said the victim received two bullets, one to the head and the other to the abdomen, from a point-blank range.

The investigation officer, Inspector Khusnood Javed, told Dawn that Fahim wanted to marry the suspect’s 18-year-old daughter and his family had also contacted the girl’s mother for his proposal. “The girl’s mother told the victim’s family that she would try to convince her husband to accept the proposal, although she was sure that Chandio would never agree to it,” he added.

The investigation officer said that Chandio kidnapped Fahim and asked his friend to leave.

He said the police mounted a search for the abducted man after the victim’s brother lodged the case against Chandio. “We raided the suspect’s house to find it locked,” he added.

The IO said the suspect had fled along with his family. “The life of the girl is apparently in danger as the suspect could kill her terming her Kari.” He said the police were making hectic efforts to track down the suspect and his family.
