PESHAWAR, Sept 18: The NWFP government has established a separate transport department to improve the performance of the sector.

The transport department, which was previously working as a wing under the environment department, now has been given the status of an independent administrative department, explained an official here on Thursday.

Consequent upon the decision, the provincial government has authorised Zafar Iqbal, director Transport, NWFP to also act as secretary to the provincial government, transport department with immediate effect and until further orders.
