LAHORE, May 6: Top seed Majid Khan (Civil Aviation Authority) defeated Arshad Iqbal (NWFP) 3-1 in the Under-19 category of the National Junior Squash Championship on the opening day at the Punjab Squash Complex Monday.
Majid started off superbly winning the opener 15-10, 15-10, 10-15, 15-13. He won the first two games by a convincing margin but due to unforced errors conceded the third.
He recovered immediately clinching the fourth to win the match.
Shah Nawaz (Punjab) also faced good opposition before beating Qadeer Hanif (NWFP) 15-9, 7-15, 17-16, 15-12 in another match of the Under-19.
The remaining matches of the Under-19 section were in progress.
Similarly, only three Under-17 matches were completed when this report was filed.
All the contests were decided in straight games.
Alam Zeb (PAF) toppled Asad Riaz (Sindh) 15-12, 15-5, 15-11.
Basit Ashfaq (Punjab) outclassed Shahid Khan (NWFP) 15-6, 15- 10, 15-5.
The promising Yasir Butt (Punjab) brushed aside Balal Zaman (NWFP) 15-11, 15-6, 15-9.
Eight matches, each in the Under-13 and Under-15 were also held on the first day.
In the girls section, the competition in Under-13, 15, 17 and 19 were also began on first day.
