ISLAMABAD, May 6: The District Development Committee, Islamabad, approved 21 new schemes (Phase-I) under the Khushal Pakistan Programme (KPP) for the development of the capital’s rural areas.
These schemes will be completed by June 30 at the cost of Rs32.596 million.
The decision was taken in a meeting presided over by Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad, Tariq Mahmood Khan, here on Monday.
The schemes include provision for village electrification, construction of link road from Shahdra Road to Suban Bharakahu, building of roads from Islamabad Highway to Pindori Road and from Lathrar Road to Tarlai Khurd, construction of Kuri Chappran Dowak Road and a street at Darkhala, extension of Rawat Industrial Road upto Mughal Phase-I and Phase-II, extension of Gokina Khurd Road, repair of Jigiot Sewera Road, repair of Piath Road and installation of tubewells for WSS Hoon Dhamial and WSS Koral Phase-II.
The pace of work on the repair of school buildings in the rural areas was also reviewed in the meeting.
Assistant Director, Local Government, Mian Mohammad Akram said 33 computers had been purchased under KPP which were being provided to women community centres in Tarlai, Bharakahu and Humak.
Computer literacy centres established in the rural areas will play an important role for promoting computer education among the rural youth, he said.
The deputy commissioner said transparency, quality of work and priority to rural areas would be the hallmark of these development schemes. He said for this purpose three district development monitoring teams were being constituted to ensure cost effectiveness and transparency.
He said honorary membership of the district development committee was being raised from six to 11 and services of retired engineers and engineers in the CDA, National Highway Authority, PWD and Wasa were being sought.
He said an independent institution under the Islamabad Rural Development Authority would be established to streamline construction work in the rural areas.
The meeting was also attended by Raja Aslam, Asghar Ali Advocate, Madam Saboohi Changez, Sahibzada Niamatulah and Dr Pervaiz Ahsan.—APP
