BADIN, July 29: Speaker National Assembly, Dr Fehmida Mirza has said that she and her spouse, Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza, did not come into politics for power but to provide basic rights to people. She emphasised on taking practical measures as these go a long way in determining the decision.

She was addressing a gathering after the inauguration of the 66kv grid station extension to 132kv at Circuit House, on Monday. She told people not to believe what undemocratic forces were propagating against the government.

She said the dictatorial rule, collapse of the system, and destruction of institutions during successive regime were the main cause of price hike, inflation, and flour shortage. The government was all out to mitigate these problems which certainly would take some time, she added.

Regarding denial of basic rights to the people of Badin, Dr Fehmida lambasted the previous regimes of neglecting the area of its share in development schemes. Water and power were basic elements in development for which the government was taking steps to promote irrigation and energy, she said.

Terming the 66kv system as an outdated and functioning nowhere but in Badin, she said that its extension to 132kv will help resolve fluctuation problem in the district. This, she added, will enhance power supply to Golarchi, Tando Bagh, Badin, and other areas with each station costing around Rs40 million.

Dr Zulfiqar Mirza said all development projects started by the former regime would continue as no one will be made victim of change in the government.

Chief Executive Officer Hesco, Guftar Ahmed Anjum said that Wapda had planned installation of 16 new grid stations, while 24 will be upgraded with the provision of 1,222km high transmission lines. This, he said, will give relief to the people in coming two years.

More than 600 distribution transformers would be provided, including 100 transformers to Badin and Tando Mohammad Khan areas.

Among others, Chief Engineer Technical, Habibullah Khilji, Chief Engineer T&G, K.B.Qureshi, Chief Engineer Operation Nazeer Ahmed Shaikh and others were present on the occasion.

PRESS CONFERENCE: Later, Speaker National Assembly addressing a press conference said the system’s weakness and conspiracies by undemocratic elements were the root cause of major problems.

Dr Mirza said people of Badin would get sweet water, health, education facilities, while the existing railways system would be reinforced at a cost of Rs30 million.

She said the existing health system could not address complex problems which will be reformed to deal effectively with diseases.
