KARACHI, July 22: The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has convened a meeting of its members on Thursday (July 24) to decide the future line of action regarding frequent increase in gas, electricity and fuel prices.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the KCCI noted that the government had also introduced several measures, which were causing exorbitant increase in cost of doing business for the trading community.
Meanwhile, Siraj Kassam Teli, senior leader of business community and former KCCI president has flayed the recent increase in fuel prices.
He said that the government had no justification to increase the prices of kerosene and diesel, which would make life of the common man miserable, thus creating unrest in the society.
Mr. Teli said that the business community, already suffered from the high cost of doing business, would be under constraint to carry on commercial activity as their planning was badly disturbed by frequent increase in fuel prices.
He said that the industry, which was finding it hard to stay afloat, would again be under immense pressure with new hike in oil prices.
He demanded of the government to explain the cost of fuel prices passed on to the consumers by it as well as by its predecessor.
The schedule of any further increase in fuel prices should be made public so that the business community could chart out its plans accordingly, he said.
