KARACHI, May 4: A mourning procession, in connection with the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), was taken out on Saturday from Nisther Park which terminated at Hussainian Iranian, Kharadar.

Police and other law-enforcement agencies were deployed to provide security to the mourners.

Different scouts and welfare organizations had set up camps on the roadsides to assist and guide the mourners, especially at the roundabout of Purani Numaish.

The speakers paid rich tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and other martyrs of Karbala who fought for the cause of righteousness.

They urged the participants to follow the footsteps of Imam Hussain (RA) and work for the glory of Islam. The participants of the procession recited Nohas while walking towards the destination.

The traffic police, which had earlier announced the diversion of vehicular traffic, closed M.A. Jinnah Road for the scheduled religious procession. However, the traffic police failed to maintain the smooth flow of traffic and check the violation of traffic rules as a result thousands of motorists faced hardships for hours.

At several places, the traffic police officials were seen indifferent to their duties and were instead indulged in chatting.

The traffic police also closed Jamshed road from Teen Hatti and the vehicular traffic was diverted towards Jail Road or Nishter Road. The closure of Jehangir Road chocked the traffic coming towards the city centre on S.M. Taufiq Road in Liaquatabad.

Similarly, traffic was diverted towards Garden from Lasbella as it was not allowed to proceed to Guru Mandir roundabout. As a result, the traffic on Nisther road continued to move at a snail’s pace since the morning. The situation further aggravated at the point where the traffic coming from Pak Colony joined the Nishter Road.

Sharea Faisal also remained crowded as most of the motorists were forced to use this main artery.

An increase in traffic load and mismanagement was also witnessed on Sharah-i-Quaideen as traffic was not allowed to proceed to Numaish.
