DHQ doctors, medics continue strike

SHEIKHUPURA, June 20: Doctors and paramedical staff of DHQ Hospital observed strike on the second consecutive day on Friday to protest the maltreatment of one doctor at the hands of some miscreants

Awais, of Ali Park, who was leading the hoodlums, allegedly slapped Dr Kafi on which Pakistan Medical Association’s local chapter announced after an emergency meeting chaired by Dr. Nasir Tawana observing the strike till the arrest of accused. Following the announcement, doctors and paramedical staff went on strike on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the accused have got interim bail from a local court.

The strike is adding to the woes of patients and their families. The admitted and outdoor patients are facing a great deal of hardship and inconvenience, as a number of surgical operations scheduled for Thursday and Friday could not be performed.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Zulfiqar condemned the incident and said that doctors were serving the ailing humanity but if they could not bag respect and honour in return then they had no option except to leave this job.

He said that the police did not take any action against the accused due to political pressure and also gave them sufficient time to get interim bail.

BODY: The body of an unidentified woman was found from open fields near Ghazi Maadwala village in Sadar police precincts. The police suspected that the assailants might have raped the woman before strangling her.
