MITHI, May 2: At least twenty-six houses were gutted in the Barach village, 28 kilometres from here, on Wednesday, when fire broke out.

The fire rendered scores of dwellers shelterless and caused a huge loss of property.

This scribe observed while visiting the destroyed houses on Thursday that about 150 inhabitants, whose houses caught fire, were living under the sky and had insufficient resources for their resettlement.

The villagers told Dawn that the intensity of the fire had become severe due to strong winds and its flames turned the roofs of thatched houses, cots, maunds of corn, fodder, hedges, beds, ornaments, trees and other households into ashes.

Around 37 seven goats and a calf were also burnt.

The fire has caused a loss of about Rs2 million.

The people of the village disclosed that the affected dwellers could hardly managed to take out their women and children from the devastating fire and some of them had no means to feed their family members because fire ruined their every belonging.

Meanwhile, the district Nazim of Tharparkar, Arbab Attaullah, visited the village on Thursday and assured the affected villagers that he would move the government to provide adequate compensation to them for their rehabilitation.

STRIKE: The business and other activities remained as usual in the town and villages of district Tharparkar on Thursday, despite the strike call given by the MQM.
