LAHORE, May 25: PML-Q president Shujaat Husain has said that his party will examine the proposed constitutional package in detail and propose amendments to the controversial clauses.
Talking to the party leaders at his residence here on Sunday, he said it was not possible to comment on the package before examining it in detail. Some of its clauses reported in the media were positive but some others controversial.
The party leadership and parliamentary party would examine every clause of the package in the light of the past experiences and prepare amendments keeping in view the national interests. The amendments in the package would be moved in the National Assembly. Shujaat said the implementation of the constitutional package was not a matter of days. It would have to be moved in the National Assembly in the form of a bill which would be entrusted to a parliamentary committee for report. The bill would have to be moved in the Senate after adoption by the National Assembly and would become a part of the Constitution only after its approval.
He said the party’s comments on the constitutional package would not be based on personal interests because it was a national political party which was fully aware of the national interests and aspirations of the people.
Other political parties should also examine the package with a similar point of view. —Reporter
