NOTTINGHAM (England), May 13: Alex Ferguson was selected as England’s manager of the year on Monday night by his coaching colleagues — 24 hours after claiming his 10th Premier League title with Manchester United.

The 66-year-old Ferguson, who has managed United for the past 22 seasons, last received the honour by the League Managers’ Association in 1999 when he guided the Reds to the treble of the Premier League, European Champions League and English FA Cup.

The managers of the 92 clubs in English football’s four professional leagues form the LMA’s membership.

“It is a tremendous honour that my fellow managers and LMA members should deem me worthy of this award,” said Ferguson, who received the award from England manager and LMA president Fabio Capello. “I am very proud to receive it.”—AP
