KARACHI: HSC exams begin today

KARACHI, May 12: The Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, on Monday announced that the HSC part I and II annual examinations 2008 would begin on Tuesday.

The examinations will be conducted in two phases. In the first phase, the examination of pre-engineering, pre-medical, home economics and science general groups will be conducted from Tuesday.

As many as 77,662 candidates are expected to take the exams at some 89 centres established across the city. The papers will be conducted in the morning session from 9am to 12 noon.

Examinations of the Commerce group (regular and private) will start on May 17 and the papers will be conducted from 2pm to 5pm at 78 centres. The total number of candidates registered to take exams in this group is 72,133.

In the second phase, the examinations of Arts groups will be conducted from June 10. The total number of registered candidates for this group is 31,126, who will appear at 41 examinations centres. As many as 215,000 candidates are expected to take the HSC examination this year.

As many as 46 vigilance teams have been formed with two senior professors in each of the teams which will visit two centres in a day. They will report the same day to a cell especially formed for the purpose.

In the report of the candidates to be caught for using unfair means, the name of invigilator of the room will also be mentioned.

A super vigilance team consisting of retired professors and senior professors will also be formed to monitor the examinations process.

According to the BIEK, the home department has been requested to deploy personnel of law enforcement agencies at the examination centres. The city nazim has also been requested to impose Section 144 in the jurisdiction of the examination centres.—APP
