PESHAWAR, May 9: A 16-bed burn unit established with financial assistance of a UK-based NGO, Bridging Frontiers, in the Lady Reading Hospital will start functioning in a fortnight. This will be the first specialised burn unit in the province.
The head of the unit, Dr Tahmeedullah, told Dawn the facility would go a long way in training of doctors, nurses and paramedics in the management of burn patients.
Dr Tahmeedullah, assistant professor of the plastic surgery unit of the Hayatabad Medical Complex, has been made in-charge of the burn unit at the LRH.
According to him, the unit after getting some necessary equipment and putting in place other facilities would provide round-the-clock emergency services to patients. He said the unit would be run by plastic surgeons, who would be imparting postgraduate training to doctors in the areas of management of burn and reconstructive surgery.— Bureau Report
