SAHIWAL, Oct 23: Cases of suicide by girls have increased manifold as poisonous pills used for the preservation of wheat are found in every home these days.

This was pointed out by Sahiwal DHQ Hospital MS Dr Jahanzeb Khan here on Monday.

He urged the government to prohibit open sale of poison and suggested domestic wheat consumers to use preservatives other than injurious pills.

A food department official came with the suggestion to expose the wheat to sun for three days before stocking it among consumers for its better preservation.

LOOTED: Dacoits looted valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from the house of a landlord here on Monday.

Two dacoits reportedly burst into Amir Shahzad’s house No 430/M when he was away. They locked the inmates in a room and decamped with 10 tolas of ornaments and other valuables.

Meanwhile, two armed youths snatched Rs78,000 in cash from shopkeeper Nadeem and his younger brother when they were on their way to a medical centre. The culprits also drove away with the two-wheeler.

A man drove away with Rashid Ahmad’s car (LOS-818) from outside the Binat-ul-Islam girls school in Sahiwal city.

DISTINCTION: Two students from institutes in Sahiwal achieved distinction in examinations.

Muhammad Kahsif bagged first position in B Com examination, 2001, by securing 1058 marks under roll number 169. He was awarded with a Honda-CD-70 MC.

Miss Abida Ramzan of a local government college topped in the BA examination, 2001, amongst the university students by securing 645 marks.
