SWABI, Oct 23: The Swabi anti-corruption police on Tuesday arrested five officials of the revenue department on the charge of treason and an Afghan displaced person for giving a bribe to the officials.

According to sources of the local administration, the police were asked to stay vigilant on a tip-off that some Afghan displaced persons (DPs) were trying to get Pakistani domiciles and national identity cards by bribing officials concerned with offers of money.

The police arrested Gardawar, Mohammad Quresh, Patwari Sultan Sher, Nambardar Bihar Ali and Iftikhar Ali of the revenue department when the officials had accepted a bribe of Rs8,000 from the Afghan DP, named as Ahmed, to provide him with a Pakistani domicile and a national identity card.

The sources said the police had registered a treason case against the revenue officials, and added that a disciplinary action would be taken against the officials, who might be dismissed from service and were likely to be jailed in a bribery case.

They said the Afghan DP would be punished and expelled from the country. Investigations, they added, were under way to ascertain who the revenue officials had contacted to get the domicile and the NIC.

Meanwhile, the Nazims of 56 union councils and the councillors   of the district were asked to be very careful while attesting NIC and domicile forms.
