KARACHI, April 6: The University of Karachi will remain closed on Monday, according to an announcement made by a spokesman for the university on Sunday evening.
“A decision to this effect was taken by Vice-Chancellor Prof Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui following a meeting held on Sunday,” he said, adding that the meeting was attended by senior officials of the KU management and faculty.
The meeting, chaired by the vice-chancellor, reviewed the situation prevailing on the campus in the wake of Saturday’s clash between two rival groups of students and the incident of firing, the spokesman said.
Expressing their concern over the untoward incident, the participants of the meeting commended senior teachers’ efforts to bring the situation under control, he added. The meeting decided to keep the university closed on Monday for security reasons.
MBBS results
The University of Karachi on Saturday announced the results of MBBS first professional (Part-B) annual examination 2008.
According to results, Nurmeen d/o Mushtaq Ahmed (seat No.81049) of the Karachi Medical and Dental College secured the first position; Javeria Iqbal d/o Mohammad Iqbal (seat No.81323) of Sir Syed College of Medical Sciences Trust (Girls) secured second position; and Salwa Mukry d/o Abdul Khaliq Mukry (seat No.81167) of the Jinnah Medical and Dental College secured third position.
A total of 222 candidates appeared in the examination and 118 of them were declared pass, making the pass.
Results of the candidates bearing roll numbers 81309, 81310, 81312, 81320, 81322, 81328, 81329, 81332, 81342, 81343, 81344 and 81345 were withheld due to incomplete enrolment.
BDS results
The University of Karachi on Saturday announced the results of BDS first professional annual examination 2008.
Tahra Jamil of the Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine stood first with 574 marks whereas the second position was shared by Sehrish Sarosh of the same institution and Maryum Naim of the Fatima Jinnah Dental College with 565 marks. The third position was secured by Hareem Sultan of the Jinnah Medical and Dental College with 564 marks.
A total of 291 candidates appeared in the examination and 177 of them were declared successful.
No teaching at Urdu varsity
Teaching in the morning and evening sessions at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology will remain suspended on Monday.
This was announced by the registrar of the university in a press release on Saturday.—Agencies
