KARACHI, March 24: At least eight people, including two brothers, were killed on Monday in acts of violence in different parts of the city, witnesses and police said.
Sharifabad police said a 40-year-old man was shot dead and his 15-year-old son was fatally wounded at their house near Gujjar Nala in the small hours of Monday.
The victims, identified as Aslam Hakeem and Sher Ali, were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where Hakeem was pronounced dead.
Hospital sources said the 15-year-old victim, student of 9th class, later died during the treatment. They said both the victims had received multiple bullet wounds in their upper torso.
The police registered a case against unknown culprits on the complaint of Hakeem’s brother, Abdul Latif. The complainant told the police that Hakeem was self-employed and that the family had no enmity with anyone.
Two brothers shot dead
Two young brothers were shot dead in the small hours of Monday in Bhitai Abad.
The bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where they were identified as Zafar Masih and Tariq Masih.
Witnesses said that a group of youngsters, belonging to the Christian community, were roaming on their bikes in the vicinity. They said that violence erupted in the area when one of the bikers hit another biker.They said the Christian community members, who were celebrating their religious festival, were fired upon by a group following the accident.
Hospital sources said both the victims were in their mid 20s and they had received multiple bullet wounds in their upper torso from a close range.
No case was, however, registered till late night.
Sub-inspector Asghar Tarar of Sachal police told Dawn that the no one from the victims’ family had so far contacted the police for lodging a case. “We are still waiting for a complainant,” he added.
Man shot dead, son wounded
A 45-year-old man was shot dead and his 16-year-old son wounded when unknown motorcyclists sprayed their car with bullets in Landhi No 4.
Identified as Abdur Rasheed and Raheel Rasheed, the victims were shifted to the JPMC where sources said the wounded young man was in a stable condition. They said Abdur Rasheed received two bullets in his chest and abdomen.
Landhi police said the victims were residents of Shah Faisal Colony and they were on their way back after attending a marriage function.
The police have registered a case against unknown culprits on the complaints of the deceased’s younger brother, Mohammed Javed.
Tortured to death
The body of a middle aged man was found at Rehrhi Goth in Sukkhun police area.
The body was shifted to the JPMC where sources said the victim was tortured to death as his body bore marks of severe torture. The said the man was in his mid 40s.
The police said the victim, who was clad in shalwar-qamees, remained unidentified and his body was shifted to the Edhi Morgue at Sohrab Goth for want of identification.
Bullet-riddled body found
The bullet-riddled body of a young man was found at Qaimkhani Ground in the jurisdiction of Moch Koh police.
It was shifted to Civil Hospital where sources said the victim had received two bullets in his chest from a very close range. They said the victim appeared to be in his mid 20s.
The body was kept at the Edhi Morgue as the victim was not identified.
Shot dead in robbery
A 30-year-old man was shot dead during a robbery near Nala Stop in New Karachi Industrial Area police limits.
The police said Bukhsh Zaid, married with a minor son, was a labourer and was killed by unknown robbers.
His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Sources said the victim received a single bullet that proved fatal.
Students clash
At least seven students of Islami Jamiat Talaba were on Monday shot and wounded in firing at Government Degree College at Nagan Chowrangi and Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technolgy (FUUAST) in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, police and witnesses said.
The IJT said that Ashar, Qasim, Umair and Waqar were injured at the college and they were shifted to the JPMC.
It said IJT workers Amjad, Aamir and Waseem received serious injuries in firing by rival students at the FUUAST and they were also shifted to JPMC.
