KARACHI, March 23: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has cautioned that abolition of local body system will create a crisis and halt development process in Karachi.
He was talking to newsmen after visiting the mausoleum of the Quaid-i-Azam on the occasion of the Pakistan Day on Sunday.
Doing away with the devolution system would also disturb flow of investment into the city, besides shattering the confidence of foreign investors in local authorities, he said, adding that such a situation would not be in the interest of Karachi and Pakistan.
“Karachi, being the economic hub of the country, plays a key role in the progress of the
country… therefore, we hope that the new government will opt for continuing the process of reconstruction and development of Karachi so that foreign investments could get further boost in the future,” Mr Kamal said.
He also underlined the need for provincial autonomy, maintaining that this would create a sense of responsibility in the provinces, besides making the federation stronger.
