SHIKARPUR, March 19: The District Council has decided to carry out repair and reconstruction of the offices of district government, the EDO Education, and other government buildings damaged in riots following the assassination of PPP leader Benazir Bhutto.
This was decided in Tuesday’s District Council session which expressed dissatisfaction over registration of an FIR by police over setting to fire District Council building and decided to lodge fresh one through court of law. DCO Shikarpur Ali Akbar Hingoro informed the house that the loss was estimated at Rs7.90 million.
A three-member committee comprising District Information Officer Irshad Ali Chandio, Nazim UC-7 Waqar Ali Shaikh and Nazim UC-3 Amanullah Soomro was also constituted to gather details of published matter and recommend rewards to journalists for best performance.
The Council paid tributes to President Parvez Musharraf for conducting free and fair elections. Members expressed sorrow over assassination of Benazir Bhutto and offered Fateha. They said reaction against the assassination was natural.
It condemned the publication of blasphemous cartoons and demanded of the government to sever diplomatic relations with Denmark.
