MANSEHRA, March 13: Sardar Shahjehan Yousaf of the PML-Q was, according to unofficial result, elected to the NA-20, Mansehra, seat after re-polling in two stations.
But while the re-polling was in progress, a bench of the Supreme Court in Islamabad restrained the returning officer of the constituency from releasing the official result.
The apex court issued the order on an appeal filed by Sardar Yousaf’s rival Lt-Gen (retd) Salahuddinj Tirmazi of the PML-N and fixed March 14 (Friday) for hearing.
According to the unofficial result, Mr Yousaf won with a margin of 1,144 votes.
After the Feb 18 polls, the returning officer had declared Gen Tirmazi elected with a margin of 54 votes.
Mr Yousaf filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court which referred the matter to the Election Commission.
The commission ordered re-polling in Sathan Gali and Changir.
Gen Tirmazi challenged the order in the Abbotabad circuit bench of the Peshawar High Court which dismissed his plea and he moved the Supreme Court on Thursday.
The supporters of Gen Tirmazi blocked the Karakorum Highway for a few hours at Baffa Doraha area.
They marched towards Mansehra and passed through various busy areas.
The procession turned into a public meeting of the Muslim Students Federation (N).
