KARACHI, Feb 24: Favourites Karachi University and Iqra University set a date for Monday’s title clash after they topped their respective groups in the Inter-university Zone F basketball tournament at UBL Sports Complex on Sunday.

Despite an outstanding performance by Noman, Aga Khan University went down fighting 46-59 to Karachi University in a keenly-fought battle.

Noman amassed 32 points, but his heroics could not save his team from defeat.

Asad Iqbal (20), Agha M. Ibrahim (17) and Syed Adnan Ali (12) were main contributors for the KU, the winners of the last zonal competition who led 27-17 at half time.

Iqra University, meanwhile, overcame PAF KIET 32-28 in extra time after two teams were tied 23-23 in the stipulated time. In the three-minute extra time, Iqra added nine points to their tally as against five by PAF KIET.

This was PAF KIET’s second match of the day after they had registered a 39-21 win over Hamdard University in an earlier encounter.

Arsalan Bajwa (15) and Waqas (8) shone for the winners, while Rashidullah scored 11 for the losers.

The KU-Iqra final to be played on Monday at 4.00pm would be of academic interest as both have qualified for the final rounds in Lahore next month.—Sports Correspondent
